SIU is a community of some 18,000 students and hundreds of faculty and staff. In this kind of environment, it is easy to blend into the crowd and get lost. It is important for students, even continuing ones, to build a network of relationships with people in the SIU community to help sort through things and places, to make the road to graduation a little easier and to create opportunities after graduation.
But of all the RSOs on campus, why SAC? Because it provides a unique opportunity that other RSOs do not. SAC is exclusively a professional, service organization, that is, it functions solely to serve the student and alumni of this university and to improve the university community. Membership in SAC is free and completely open to all full time SIU students. The only requirement is a commitment and willingness to help and learn with the other members.
In return, SAC provides you with an invaluable experience. Much of the work SAC does gives its members experience in a wide variety of majors and fields of study. This experience is vital to students when they leave SIU and enter the workforce. SAC is growing rapidly and expanding programs virtually every year. Membership in SAC currently offers hands-on experience in these and other majors:
Marketing Journalism Public Relations
Speech Communication Art and Design Advertising
Photography Accounting Business
Hospitality Management Computer Science Education
Radio/TV Recreation
